FINALLY, I am going on a Missions Trip again! 

When I returned home in 2011 from being with Mercy Ships in Africa, I knew I would get out there again, just not when and where. Eventually I got back into "life as usual" including working, family, at that time taking care of my parents and the opportunities just did not present themselves. In late 2020 I attended a meeting for a Medical Missions Trip to Romania and was ecstatic to join their medical team and even raised all of my support! Then C19 happened and travel was shut down worldwide. Not only was I disappointed our team could not go but I was concerned about the people that were counting on our team to show up and help. What would happen to them? I continue to pray for them knowing they are truly in God's hands.

Fast forward to today! It's now 2025, I've lived in Texas for over three years now and God has made a way for me to join my church in volunteering in Peru. Our team of about 55 people will be three teams doing Medical, Construction and Ministry. When I signed up, I expressed willingness to be on either of the teams as I have had experience in all on Missions Trips and in my work life in the states in hospitals.

Our team met for the first time this past Sunday night and did introductions and heard a bit from our two team leaders: a physician and a pastor. We also had introductions of the team. There's quite a diverse group going...young and older, laypeople and professionals but a common theme of hearts to serve. I had a few moments to chat with our physician team lead and would like to pair me up with one of the dentists. Since there was a dentist there that night, I chatted with her and her teenage daughter. They had both gone with the church to Guatemala two years ago and had memorable experiences. As we spoke it became clear that when Dr. Catherine mentioned I would be her "assistant" she didn't mean shuffling papers, she meant inside people's mouths! 👀 As in a dental assistant! WoW! You truly can do anything to help in the "developing world". While it was a bit of a shock, especially when we started talking about how there will be no suction or autoclaves.... I'm warming up to the role ahead and getting comfortable with the idea of doing something I never thought I would do!

I LEAVE SATURDAY!!!!!

H ere we go! On Saturday morning our team of over 55 people will meet at DFW (very early in the morning) to make our way to Peru. Please pray for safe travels & that all of our luggage arrives with us. We will be bringing vitamins/over the counter medicines in our checked luggage as well as dental equipment so it's imperative to have that as we arrive to begin our clinics.   Schedule is as follows : 06/21 Saturday we depart DFW at 8:30am with a layover in Miami with a 8:30pm arrival to Lima, Peru. This will be a loooong day of travel.  06/22 Sunday morning attend church at Camina de Vida, the church hosting us and arranging our outreach to those in Peru. After church we will work on packaging OTC meds/vitamins into small packets for distribution through our clinics.  In the afternoon that Sunday we will fly to Arequipa, the town we will be holding a dental/medical clinic and have our ministry team working with children at a local school. Home Again!

 It's hard to even know where to start, so I'll start at the beginning of the trip. I arrived at DFW at 5:15am on Saturday, June 21st. Didn't see anyone from the mission's team so checked in my bag and waited around. Finally, I saw a group of folks in the same shirt ( we were given matching tee-shirts to travel in ). At first, I couldn't understand why we needed to be there 3 hours prior to our flight time but that became abundantly clear! With a group of 57 people it takes a looooong time to tag bags, check them in, get boarding passes and finally get everyone through security. Along the way, I met a lovely lady named Tiffany who works with an organization called "Orphan Outreach" here in the DFW area. Getting Closer!

Very happy to say I am fully funded for my trip as of mid-March! Thank you to all of the friends and family who selflessly gave to support me. It is truly an honor to be an ambassador on your behalf. 🙏 I am just 2 months away from the trip to Peru! I found out at our last meeting that we will not be staying in the capital city of Lima as originally planned. We will be flying to Arequipa, a city that is about 475 miles southeast and at a much higher elevation (7,661 ft). Looked that up, its elevation is higher than Denver at 1.45 miles. 🌄 A quick check of the weather shows lows of 46 and highs of 72 which will be pretty perfect weather! We are planning to spend Mon-Wed there doing the dental & medical clinics, along with ministry outreach. I bought some scrubs for working on the dental team.
