W ith all the travel we did last week I've been wiped out. I rested Sunday after returning late Saturday, then worked from home Monday but have been in the office 9-hour days the rest of the week and catching up!  Thankful for the holiday today to catch up on things! Happy Fourth Everyone!!πŸŽ† Here is some more information on my time in Peru. We did  SO   much travel; a total of 6 flights in 7 days, plus   way too many   charter bus rides. ( I get motion sickness often, so the buses are not my favorite ). Some statistics from our week: 858 patients seen ( Medical & Dental ) 180 were Dental ( my team ) I personally pulled two teeth ! πŸ˜›Can't say I ever thought I would do that, but it was super cool!!! 1,344 Prescriptions filled 25 wheelchairs assembled and given to individuals in need Ministered to an Orphanage, Old folks home for abandoned older adults , a special needs school and the private Christian school that coordinated with us to hold the clinics. 9...

Home Again!

It's hard to even know where to start, so I'll start at the beginning of the trip. I arrived at DFW at 5:15am on Saturday, June 21st. Didn't see anyone from the mission's team so checked in my bag and waited around. Finally, I saw a group of folks in the same shirt ( we were given matching tee-shirts to travel in ). At first, I couldn't understand why we needed to be there 3 hours prior to our flight time but that became abundantly clear! With a group of 57 people it takes a looooong time to tag bags, check them in, get boarding passes and finally get everyone through security. Along the way, I met a lovely lady named Tiffany who works with an organization called "Orphan Outreach" here in the DFW area. She was joining our team for ministry in Arequipa and also going to be meeting with folks about their work expanding into Peru.  She is a Co-Founder of Orphan Outreach. We had great conversations about her family, her ministry, my past missions' experi...

I LEAVE SATURDAY!!!!!

H ere we go! On Saturday morning our team of over 55 people will meet at DFW (very early in the morning) to make our way to Peru. Please pray for safe travels & that all of our luggage arrives with us. We will be bringing vitamins/over the counter medicines in our checked luggage as well as dental equipment so it's imperative to have that as we arrive to begin our clinics.   Schedule is as follows : 06/21 Saturday we depart DFW at 8:30am with a layover in Miami with a 8:30pm arrival to Lima, Peru. This will be a loooong day of travel.  06/22 Sunday morning attend church at Camina de Vida, the church hosting us and arranging our outreach to those in Peru. After church we will work on packaging OTC meds/vitamins into small packets for distribution through our clinics.  In the afternoon that Sunday we will fly to Arequipa, the town we will be holding a dental/medical clinic and have our ministry team working with children at a local school. They will be doing a VBS...

Getting Closer!

Very happy to say I am fully funded for my trip as of mid-March! Thank you to all of the friends and family who selflessly gave to support me. It is truly an honor to be an ambassador on your behalf. πŸ™ I am just 2 months away from the trip to Peru! I found out at our last meeting that we will not be staying in the capital city of Lima as originally planned. We will be flying to Arequipa, a city that is about 475 miles southeast and at a much higher elevation (7,661 ft). Looked that up, its elevation is higher than Denver at 1.45 miles. πŸŒ„ A quick check of the weather shows lows of 46 and highs of 72 which will be pretty perfect weather! We are planning to spend Mon-Wed there doing the dental & medical clinics, along with ministry outreach. I bought some scrubs for working on the dental team. I'm (oddly) very excited about the role I will take on.  We'll  return back to Lima to spend Thurs assembling and distributing wheelchairs. With travel days on Saturday to get t...

Medical Team

W e had our second team meeting this past Sunday. We had researched Peru between meetings and discussed everything from weather to currency, customs and greetings, to religion and language. All in an effort to get to know more about the culture of the people we will be serving. We are very blessed to have two native Peruvians on our team who add valuable personal insight to these types of discussions. W e will be working with a church in the Lima area and our team leaders are keeping in close contact with them as to the needs we can expect to see. It looks like, as of now, we may need to go outside the city of Lima to more rural areas to find folks who most need the care we can offer.  As a team we remain open and willing to go wherever God leads us.  This is a prayer point: that God send us where He needs us most to have the greatest impact on those who need to feel the hands and feet of Jesus through us.  O ur assignment from this last meeting is to work on our testimon...
F INALLY, I am going on a Missions Trip again!  W hen I returned home  in 2011  from being with Mercy Ships in Africa, I knew I would get out there again, just not when and where. Eventually I got back into "life as usual" including working, family, at that time taking care of my parents and the opportunities just did not present themselves. In late 2020 I attended a meeting for a Medical Missions Trip to Romania and was ecstatic to join their medical team and even raised all of my support! Then C19 happened and travel was shut down worldwide. Not only was I disappointed our team could not go but I was concerned about the people that were counting on our team to show up and help. What would happen to them? I continue to pray for them knowing they are truly in God's hands. F ast forward to today! It's now 2025, I've lived in Texas for over three years now and God has made a way for me to join my church in volunteering in Peru. Our team of about 55 people will be t...
